Let me give you a tip. Buy Broad leaf spears, and steel tipped spears those are best. And get the perk that allows you to upgrade fine steel into thamaske steel. You need weapons in inventory and open smelting screen. Then you can manually make a list of useful weapons. Also include wooden items.

For polearms the glavine, voulge or warrazor weapons are the heaviest hitters. Axes will hit multiple opponents and maxes will ignore most armour. If you want a swing sword then pick a curved one. Generally their swing damage is higher than their straight sword counterparts. The tradeoff is a worse stab.

Smelting higher tier weapons will unlock more parts than smelting T1 weapons. But smelting Vlandian weapons does not yield Vlandian weapon parts. I like to make long glaives when I unlokc that blade because you can make them with damage approaching 200, but I do not even know whose culture a long glaive is. And I do not need to know.

Requires a lot of gold. Leveling Smithing to max is a grind, not as bad as the Trading to max grind, but still a grind.
One-handed weapons are usually fast, light, and can be used with a shield.
