There's another adjustment for the temp coming out of the middle vents. You can also check the footwell vents to see if they're blowing hot air, which will tell you if the heater is working properly. All settings set to max heat with max fan. Heat from defrost and floor vents. Middle vents blowing cold air only.
Go to hidden kombi menu. Monitorize fuel consumption (L/h) menu 04.01. Check the fuel consumption with the snowflake button on and off (set the temp to the low value first) If there is a noticeable change on the consumption (from 0.7 to 1.3l /h approx) your compressor will be apparently ok and the gas too.

I first thought that oil separator or related hoses are failing based on my web search. But later I came across that this problem is A/C related because,
Symptoms are as follows; The system was blowing warm air at any temperature setting even thought the charge is OK. I disconnected the heater control valves and now the air blows cold. The Auxiliary Fan comes on after about 3-4 minutes with the compressor running but runs at erratic speeds at first then only runs on high. Sounds like an airplane.

The only time it will blow hard is when I push the defrost button. other than that it blows slowly or softly. the only known problem. The display tells me sometimes that my battery has a low charge.

Locate the air con compressor in the engine bay. Start the vehicle and switch on the zircon. Look in the engine bay to the compressor. It should cycle on and off, making a "clicking" noise as it does, as the solenoid (electromagnetic) clutch on the front engages. When engaged, the very front of the pulley assembly will be rotating.
2016 X5 a/c blowing but not through any vents. This is an intermittent problem, but yesterday was on a 5 hour road trip when it started happening again. While the pressure level can indicate the condition (low or high), you need to drain and refill the refrigerant to a specific amount (by weight).
twh said: +1 on don't pay attention to the AUC sensor. That's AUC sensor can activate activate recirculation mode under certain conditions -- for example, if it detects a lot of diesel exhaust. My 2006 530xi A/C quit blowing cold last summer. I've had the car since new and this was the first problem with the A/C.
