If you want to change oil level or replace fork springs, it is difficult to remove oil from between the tubes. THEREFORE, we always use the "with oil" method and fill the gap with fluid before setting oil level (as described above). With the KTM method, when fluid transfers from the gap to the center of the tube, the oil level will drop 10mm
It will last much longer, wont fade and is very slippery. If you are over 185lbs w/o gear, set you oil level at 120mm from the top. It makes the initial stroke a little more plush and it allows me to use a bit more of the stroke. As far as MX is concerned, I would lower the level by 40cc's or so and then test. If you bottom out too much add 5 to 10cc's per leg through the bleeder screw until you are softly bottoming just a couple of times per lap.
Posted June 27, 2008. On those bikes you would want to measure how far down to the fluid from the top of the fork. The RM85 adjustable range is 110mm - 140mm from the top of the fork leg to the fluid level. With your rider weight, assuming stock fork springs, I'd start at 130mm.
